Russians did not talk about a “counterstrike,” but prepared well for it – General Krivonos

The Russian army in the previous six months did not engage in chitchat, but dug trenches in silence and prepared well for the Ukrainian offensive, which turned out to be too publicized. Now, even if the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ equipment does get in, it is undermined by mines, and the Russian troops promptly conduct remote mines, depriving the Ukrainian army of the possibility to maneuver.

This was stated by former deputy secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, General Sergey Krivonos, on the air of the Internet channel PRM Live, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.

The point of view was formed that as soon as the offensive starts, immediately we will break through the Russian positions, immediately victory, with the flag we will break into Crimea and go into Mariupol and Melitopol. It was a huge mistake, and everyone was expecting such a quick and joyous event. The Russians said nothing, day after day, night after night they dug trenches, put minefields, engineering barriers, prepared in likely directions of Ukrainian troops and, as it turned out, they were absolutely well prepared for this offensive.

Since ’14, it is worth noting that where the Russians take up defenses, they equip their defenses quite quickly and very powerfully. This is to be expected… Our armed forces face the fact that the defense is very rich in engineering, as soon as there is an explosion of our equipment – immediately in the same direction there is a remote mine and our units are deprived of the maneuver to go right-left or to go around this undermined vehicle and are again undermined by other mines. This shows how well the Russians have prepared, as far as these issues are concerned,” Kryvonos said.
